4000 Seamiles from Stockholm to Athens!

Have you counted the miles to this and that place? How long will it take to get to the Mediterranean? We have been getting these questions a lot. Funny enough we haven’t really been bothered with checking the exact numbers.

First of all, we have plenty of time and are not in a hurry to get anywhere. Second of all, we know it’s a LONG way! That’s has been information enough for now.

Out of courtesy to our co-sailors, who are arranging their schedules to join for parts of the journey, we finally calculated the distances and time estimates for different legs between Stockholm and Porto. That’s some 2000 seamiles and 195 hours of sailing if one would go non-stop with a steady speed of 10 knots. Needless to say, this is not what we are aiming for or what would even be realistic! But three weeks should be enough to take us to Portugal if the weather gods are on our side.

From Porto it’s another 2000 miles to Athens, excluding all detours. Wonder if one logbook will be enough to document all this! And the amount of maps! So far we have 45, and that covers maybe one third...
